TRANSMISSION LINE COMPACTION IN ONTARIO HYDRO

Аннотация

In the early 1970s public pressures for aesthetically pleasing transmission lines led to the development of several compact link concepts, one of which was built near Toronto. The new designs were based on shorter strings of semiconducting glaze insulators and tl:.e anticipated success of a novel galloping control method. During the late 1980s the need to reconductor and upgrade lines within narrow rights-of-way renewed interest in compact lines. A 40 year ·old 115 kV lattice tower was redesigned to carry a laq;er conductor at 230 kV. The.principal innovation used is the horizontal vee insulator in place of the tower arms.
