Die aktuell in Brüssel diskutierte Reform des Urheberrechts könnte auch zu erheblichen datenschutzrechtlichen Problemen führen. Gerade beim Einsatz von sogenannten Uploadfiltern besteht die Gefahr, dass wenige große Anbieter, die eine entsprechende Technik zur Verfügung stellen, verstärkt Daten über Nutzer vieler Plattformen und Dienste im Internet gewinnen .
Die EU-Urheberrechtsreform in der jetzigen Form wird eine automatisierte Inhaltskontrolle bringen. Diese Uploadfilter könnten nicht nur der Grundstein für eine Zensurinfrastruktur sein, sie sind auch aus datenschutzrechtlichen Gründen bedenklich.
