Editorial. The discourse of recovery has been co-opted by and pervades many standards of mental health service delivery. I want to consider what this means for mood disorders in a clinical context in which the medical model is the primary approach to treatment. The core concept in recovery discourse is concerned with living well in the presence or absence of mental illness and the many losses that may come in its wake, such as isolation, poverty, unemployment, and discrimination (Mental Health Commission 2012).
