Seine zentrale These ist, dass die heutige »Arbeitsgesellschaft ein posttraumatisches Syndrom (ist). Die Angst, die sie zusammenhält, ist Folge von Jahrhunderten der gewalttätigen Durchsetzung des verallgemeinerten Zwangs zur Arbeit im Zuge der Unterwerfung der Menschen unter das Kapital.«
Die Blutgesetzgebung sollte die aus der gewohnten Lebensbahn Herausgeworfenen zur Arbeit unter kapitalistischen Bedingungen zwingen und die kapitalistische Arbeitsdisziplin durchsetzen, ohne dass die neu entstehenden kapitalistischen Betriebe (Manufakturen etc.) sie bereits alle aufnehmen konnten. Die Blutgesetzgebung ist eine der grausamsten Erscheinungsformen der urspr. Akkumulation des Kapitals.

Ausgehend von der Annahme, dass für erfolgreiches Betteln Wissen und Kompetenzen notwendig sind, die nicht in formalen Bildungsprozessen erworben werden, ist es Ziel der Diplomarbeit, Kompetenzen und Lernprozesse einer bestimmten bildungsfernen Gruppe beschreibbar zu machen.

Postone) "Sozialethik" der kapitalistischen Kultur: Arbeit als Selbstzweck, Beruf "In England standen – in der Tradition der Puritaner – das Produkt, in dem die Arbeit verkörpert schien, sowie der Tausch dieses Produktes im Mittelpunkt. Dagegen wurden in Deutschland – beziehungsweise in den deutschen Teilstaaten – die Verausgabung der Arbeit um ihrer Selbst willen, also die Arbeitstätigkeit, und die Autorität der Vorgesetzten und Unternehmer als zentrale Kategorien wahrgenommen."
