(die IMDB zählt mehr als 20 Verfilmungen des stoffes) schon zu einem modernen Mythos herangewachsen oder aber vielmehr zu einem Klischee geraten. Insbesondere um die Weihnachtszeit ist es neben Dicken's Weihnachtsgeschichte der wohl beliebteste Stoff, der dann über die Kanäle flimmert.
