Demnächst wird das „Umfassende Wirtschafts- und Handelsabkommen" (CETA) der EU mit Kanada den Bundestag beschäftigen. Nur wenn es in einem langwierigen und schwierigen Verfahren vom EU-Parlament und von sämtlichen Mitgliedstaaten ratifiziert wird, hat die „Transatlantische Handels- und Investitionspartnerschaft" (TTIP) mit den USA eine realistische Chance.
Falls die geheimen Verhandlungen zwischen den Unterhändlern beider Seiten darüber bis zur amerikanischen Präsidentschaftswahl im November nicht beendet sind, könnte sich das Zeitfenster sogar für beide Abkommen schließen.
Manches spricht deshalb dafür, dass die jüngste Generaloffensive des Neoliberalismus im Sande verläuft: CETA und TTIP stehen möglicherweise vor dem Scheitern.
Die USA wollen die Standards beim Verbraucherschutz im TTIP-Abkommen senken, so geht aus Medienberichten hervor. Greenpeace will heute den bislang geheimen Verhandlungstext veröffentlichen. Darin sieht der Europa-Abgeordnete Sven Giegold einen Erfolg des investigativen Journalismus.
