Die EU-Freihandelsabkommen mit der südamerikanischen Staatengruppe Mercosur, sowie mit Mexiko und Japan stehen im Zentrum des EU-Handelsrats am Freitag in Brüssel. Dabei dürften auch die jüngsten Aussagen von US-Präsident Donald Trump, der Japan erneut unfaire Handelspraktiken vorwarf, diskutiert werden, hieß es aus EU-Ratskreisen. Wirtschaftsminister Harald Mahrer (ÖVP) wird daran teilnehmen.
Die süd-amerikanische Mercosur (Mercado Común del Sur – Gemeinsamer Markt des Südens) hat der EU die Öffnung von 93 Prozent ihres lateinamerikanischen Marktes angeboten, um damit ein schon lange angestrebtes Freihandelsabkommen abzuschliessen.
Argentinien hat Vorbehalte gegen das von Kanzlerin Angela Merkel (CDU) unterstützte Freihandelsabkommen zwischen der EU und dem südamerikanischen Staatenbund Mercosur.
Basel (ots) - Jedes Freihandelsabkommen ist ein Tauschgeschäft. Mit dem Mercosur gibt es Freihandel und mehr Exporte nur, wenn der südamerikanische Staatenbund im Gegenzug mehr Agrarprodukte in die Schweiz liefern kann. Anstatt auf hohe Standards im Handel mit landwirtschaftlichen Produkten zu setzen, verhandelt die Schweiz über eine Marktöffnung für Billig-Importe, produziert unter bedenklichen Bedingungen für Tier- und Umweltschutz. Gestern kamen die EU-Handelsminister zu einem informellen Treffen zusammen. Es ging um die letzte WTO-Ministerkonferenz, laufende Freihandelsverhandlungen und ausländische Direktinvestitionen. Und um US-Strafzölle.
2014 haben Attac, Via Campesina, die PRO-GE, GLOBAL 2000 und Südwind gemeinsam die Plattform TTIP STOPPEN initiiert. Gemeinsam mit über 60 PartnerInnen in Österreich sowie weiteren in Europa, den USA und Kanada wurde gegen TTIP, CETA und TiSA gekämpft, gelang es CETA und der EU-Kommission Steine in den Weg zu legen und TTIP vorerst zu verhindern. Der handelspolitische Teil von CETA konnte nur mit großen Schwierigkeiten ratifiziert werden. Die Sonderklagerechte für Konzerne jedoch müssen erst durch 38 nationale und regionale Parlamente ratifiziert werden. Damit bleibt die Chance CETA zu stoppen intakt.
Ein Freihandelsabkommen mit Mercosur dürfe nicht auf Kosten des Schweizer Agrar- und Lebensmittelsektors erfolgen, so die Schweizerische Vereinigung für einen starken Agrar- und Lebensmittelsektor (SALS).
Der Bundesrat verhandelt derzeit über ein Freihandelsabkommen mit Argentinien, Brasilien, Paraguay und Uruguay (Mercosur). Bei den grossen Wirtschaftsverbänden stossen die Pläne auf Zustimmung. Die Landwirtschaft hingegen ist gespalten.
