"Europa muss verhindern, dass der von US-Präsident Trump gestartete Handelskrieg völlig eskaliert", sagt der FDP-Fraktionsvize. In Zeiten von Protektionismus und Populismus werde der Freihandel mehr denn je gebraucht, um Wachstum und Arbeitsplätze zu sichern. Auch FDP-Vizefraktionschef Michael Theurer sieht mögliche Gegenmaßnahmen der EU auf US-Strafzölle als letztes Mittel.

Bonn, 25.09.2017. Unter dem Motto „Trade: Behind the Headlines“ treffen sich vom 26. bis 28. September 2017 in Genf Handelspolitiker, Wissenschaftler und Vertreter von Unternehmen und Nichtregierungsorganisationen aus aller Welt zum alljährlichen Public Forum der Welthandelsorganisation (WTO).
Das geplante Freihandelsabkommen zwischen Europa und Japan sorgt derzeit für Optimismus. Dabei könnten noch die selben Probleme auftreten, wie bei TTIP und CETA. Die EU muss zeigen, dass sie es diesmal ernst meint.
Das EU-Parlament hat das CETA-Abkommen mit Kanada beschlossen. Doch kaum jemand rechnet damit, dass das TTIP-Abkommen mit den USA noch einmal belebt wird. Trumps Protektionismus verunsichert die Welt. Die EU will die entstandenen Lücken nun füllen.
Wegen der protektionistischen Haltung des US-Präsidenten erwägt Parteichef Özdemir, die Position zum Handelsabkommen mit Kanada zu überdenken – wenn nachverhandelt wird.
Die Grünen überdenken ihre Haltung gegenüber dem europäisch-kanadischen Freihandelsabkommen. Für eine Zustimmung braucht es aber Nachverhandlungen, sagt Grünen-Chef Cem Özdemir.
Der amerikanische Präsident droht anderen Ländern mit Handelsbeschränkungen. Die würden durchaus entsprechend reagieren, sagt Volker Kauder. Und kündigt an, mit wem er demnächst sprechen will.
