Аннотация

Fictive interactions may be expressed as a stylistic feature or a grammatical feature in any given language. In contrast to English, Kombai (Indonesian Papua) has fictive interactive constructions that have become unmarked, are obligatory in certain domains, used by all speakers in all domains, and are highly frequent. The quote-markers are frozen forms of a verb that is never used independently. No grammatical features distinguish fictive and factive usage but anaphoric or cataphoric demonstratives can disambiguate these cases. Bible translators must replicate these features.
