Abstract
A conference paper about the state of education worldwide is presented. It identifies the elements that constitute a good U.S. university. It describes the author's experience at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. It shows that research universities, liberal arts institutions, state colleges, and community colleges in the U.S., as well as the higher educational institutions throughout the world, share the same purpose.
