Organizations are confronted with a growing load and diversity of information and content, and with increasing demands for knowledge and skills, as in project management where the knowledge created through their development are a crucial component of the operation of any company.
The proposal is to develop a system that would enable to define, build and facilitate the implementation of:
- The parameters by which information would be judged as relevant to a given project phase and to a specific functional organization.
- The building of the information architecture relevant to the above mentioned parameters.
- The methods to operate with such a system so that users are rewarded with the first information introduced into the system.
- The organization of the project around the KM-NPI Navigator so as to use it as a support to the developers and not as a burden to them.
- The organization of the competence centres as suppliers of expertises.
The target outcome would be:
- An advanced authoring environment for the creation of interactive and expressive content enabling multi-modal reporting. These environments will ease content sharing and remixing, also by non-expert users, by automatically tagging content with semantic metadata, and by storing it in networked repositories supporting similarity-based indexing and search capabilities for all content types.
- Collaborative automated workflow environments to manage the lifecycle of novel and legacy media and enterprise content assets, from the acquisition of reference materials to the versioning, packaging and repurposing of existing products.
- Architectures and technologies for personalized distribution, presentation and consumption of self-aware, adaptive content.
- Actions geared towards community building, intended to simulate cross-disciplinary approaches and a more effective user/supplier dialog.
The proposed model considers information and communication technologies as tools that allow more efficient alternatives in the management of the information system. The human action occupies a central place in these models, in particular, the actions that have to do with the use given to these technologies. New approaches that give a special importance, not only to the information and communication technologies in the firm, but the use that firms make of these technologies and derived consequences. Our model proposes a practical understanding of the relationship amongst people, technology and social action.
In this project we seek qualified partners having experience in analysing the different attitudes people develop when working with Information and communication technologies for research and teaching purposes. We also look for technical pieces of advice on the use and reach of ICT at Universities, and experts in analysing organisational climate at universities.
Researchers having tried to find some kind of relationship between the use of ICTs and final firm's results (in terms of satisfaction degree or organisational performance) are also welcome.
So researchers or centres of research doing research on social consequences of Information and communication technologies from different perspectives, the philosophical, the technical, the economic and the social one are welcome to take part in the project. In order to test the proposed model we are also seeking Universities practising different teaching and researching styles, traditional, virtual and distance learning ones.
The research investigates the information seeking and sharing behaviour of members of collaborative research groups and uses this knowledge to develop knowledge management systems to support collaborative research. New tools for the description of data and documents on intranets and Internets, e.g. social bookmarking and the semantic web, are a driving force for the research. The project assesses user requirements for semantic web features in the context of digital libraries.
To amend these problems, the conception, design and generation of an Intelligent Document Management System is proposed, that will be able to detect the existing inconsistencies in a technical and normative document corpus, and also will facilitate the generation of new documentation without these kind of inconsistencies. For the latter, the specification of a methodology to generate new documentation is proposed, that will have the benefits of a digital format.
The European Parliament recently passed a proposal to treat Internet censorship by repressive regimes as a trade barrier. The proposal, submitted by Jules Maaten of the rightist Dutch VVD party, passed on a 571-38 vote. Maaten describes it as an "unusual, but effective way" to promote freedom of expression on the Internet.
