Laut Medienberichten möchte die Regierung Trump bilaterale Handelsabkommen stärken. Mit Deutschland soll es das nicht geben – sagt die Bundesregierung. Möglich seien nur multilaterale Abkommen mit ganz Europa.
Um Freihandel geht es nur am Rande. In dem Punkt sind sich eigentlich alle einig. Diejenigen, die das geplante transatlantische Freihandelsabkommen TTIP herbeisehnen, weil Europa nur so seine hohen Standards bewahren könne. Und die anderen, die sich Sorgen machen wegen der gentechnisch veränderten Lebensmitteln und den undurchschaubaren internationalen Schiedsgerichten. Aber worum geht es dann im Kern?
