Abstract

Contact voltage and current induced by power frequency magnetic field should be limited to recommended safety level to protect human health. This research on the actual condition of contact voltage and current was performed to find out whether the earth systems in Republic of Korea could have effects on contact voltage and current. Magnetic field measurements were carried out at residential areas scattered over the country. 139 residential areas were measured. Correlation between power frequency magnetic field and contact voltage was investigated. The houses in the vicinity of transmission and substation facilities inside substation were chosen and investigated. The obtained results were classified and summarized according to the residential types. Contact voltages were measured and investigated basically at 4 points per house. Human body was modeled as 1 kQ resistance which is known as the severest condition when contact current flows through human body. Evaluation of the effects of contact voltage in Republic of Korea could be carried out through the obtained contact voltage distributions. Each measurement was carried out with and without resistor alternately.
