Abstract

In recent years environmental effects due to transmission lines have been drawing increasing attention. The general public is concerned about electrostatic induction and biological effects. Although evidence existed to show that the electric field environment in the vicinity of EHV lines does not constitute a hazardous stress to biological bodies, many research investigations were carried out to further substantiate the earlier findings. The results of the following studies are summarized: classification of ground level electric fields; investigations to determine the effect on the growth of farm crops and farm animals; and induced effects on irrigation equipment.
