DEVELOPMENT OF SNOW-RESISTANT CONDUCTORS

, , and .
(1981)

Abstract

Experiments on wet dense snow adhesion to conductors were made indoors under simulated outdoor conditions in order to survey the growth of snow microscopically. Also, snow adhesion to the conductors in the field was observed and compared with the finding from indoor experiments. As a result, a new method of preventing wet snow damage to transmission lines has been developed. This snow-resistant conductor is composed of a series of circlips disposed around the conductor, and some anti-torsional dampers.
