Digitale und sozial-ökologische Transformation – Chance oder Widerspruch?

. Blockchained? Digitalisierung und Wirtschafts-Politik, 18, Metropolis, Marburg, (February 2020)

Abstract

In this paper the question of the relationship between digital and social-ecological transformation is investigated. Does the digital transformation help with the realization of the social-ecological transformation or does it stand in the way? To this end, the central theses from “Zero Marginal Cost Society” by Jeremy Rifkin are being presented, followed by those from “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” by Shoshana Zuboff. This is followed by a brief analysis of their consequences for a socio-ecological transformation. Afterwards, the core theses of the book “Smarte grüne Welt?” by Tilman Santarius and Steffen Lange are presented. The paper ends with the conclusion, that the goals of social-ecological transformation must be given a clear priority over those of digital transformation.
