For-profit education: Facing the challenges of slower growth

.
Chronicle of Higher Education, (2006)

Abstract

This article reports that after four years of debate, 2006 could be the year the U.S. Congress finally takes action on proposed changes in federal student-aid laws. The outcome will be a good indicator of the for-profit higher-education industry's political clout. The industry also wants a change in the way the government defines institutions of higher education, a change that would make it easier for the for-profit colleges to gain access to sources of federal funds that are now restricted to nonprofit institutions. According to Eduventures Inc., a consulting company in Boston, the for-profit post-secondary-education market generates annual revenue of about \$17.4-billion.
