CORONA AND ELECTRIC FIELD PERFORMANCE OF THE BPA PROTOTYPE 1200-kV TRANSMISSION LINE

(1981)

Abstract

This paper summarizes results from a 2-1/2 year electrical test program at the Bonneville Power Administration's 1200-kV Lyons Test Facility. During the testing period, corona and electric field data were monitored on both 7 x 41 mm and 8 x 41 mm conductor bundle configurations. Electric field exposures for ecological studies at the site were quantified. A comparison is made between the corona and electric field performance from the 1200-kV line and that from operating 500-kV transmission lines.
