Abstract
The presence of buildings close to overhead or buried power lines often requires the need to
reduce the magnetic fields produced by such sources. The mitigation can act either on the
source or on the region to be protected. This paper deals with the second case and the
mitigation is carried out with passive shields. In particular, we will apply different
formulations suitable for the study of medium and large size shielding systems with very
small thickness. Moreover, the three-dimensionality of the structure to be shielded and of its
complexity, as the presence of holes (e.g. windows and door), is taken into account. The
choice of the suitable formulations depends on the shielding materials that can be purely
conductive or purely ferromagnetic.
