Despite limitations, this trial does provide evidence that both web-based and telephone-delivered CBT are better than usual treatment.
But the results do not give us any practical information about what elements of the therapy helped control or reduce symptoms of IBS.
This could have been the result of changes in diet, reduction in stress, improved sleep or other factors.

Blog post. Working an emotionally-demanding job can leave you frazzled by alienation, exhaustion, and confusion about whether you are doing any good. Clinical psychologists and psychotherapists live their day-to-day at the interface of their clients’ most difficult emotions and recollections, so it is no surprise that burnout is a leading cause of problems for those in the profession. To better understand the risk factors that contribute to therapist burnout, a new review article in the Journal of Clinical Psychology has examined findings from 30 years of research.
Burnout is a major concern within the NHS impacting negatively on mental healthcare professionals. Evidence suggests that burnout can lead to reduced productivity and reduced quality of care for patients. Mindfulness‐based interventions (MBIs) have demonstrated effectiveness in mitigating burnout for healthcare professionals; however no previous research has directly reported correlations between burnout and mindfulness.. this research can't offer certainty that mindfulness interventions are effective for weight loss: it pooled mostly small studies of variable quality and methods, the interventions differed across studies and it was unclear whether participants were using other weight loss measures alongside the mindfulness intervention. This makes it difficult to know if the effects were truly down to mindfulness, or other weight loss programmes.
Invited commentary. Although psychological disorders, such as depression and anxiety, have long been studied as factors that contribute to poorer health (broadly defined) over time, it is only in the last few years that psychological strengths have emerged as having possible protective influences on health. One such strength is purpose in life, which was first formulated from the life experiences of Victor Frankl, who spent 3 years in a Nazi concentration camp.1 He saw purpose in life as having life-saving features and went on to develop a form of psychotherapy based on it.
