Childhood disturbances in social, emotional, language, motor and cognitive functioning, and schizotypy have each been implicated as precursors of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. We investigated whether relationships between early childhood developmental vulnerabilities and childhood schizotypy are mediated by educational underachievement in middle childhood.

The onset of schizophrenia occurs during a period critical for development of social relationships and functional independence. As such, interventions that target the early course of illness have the potential to stave off functional decline and restore functioning to pre-illness levels. In this entirely remote study, people with recent-onset schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) participated in a 12-week randomized controlled trial to determine the efficacy of PRIME (personalized real-time intervention for motivational enhancement), a mobile-based digital health intervention designed to improve motivation and quality of life.. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (BD) are heritable disorders with similarities in clinical symptoms and typical onset after puberty.1 While research shows that impaired motor coordination can have an association with schizophrenia,2 there are limited data on childhood development preceding BD. Murray et al1 proposed a developmental model for similarities and dissimilarities between schizophrenia and BD, but it remains unknown if dissimilarities exist in early infancy and if they covary with genetic liability for these disorders. Using polygenic risk scores (PRSs), we explored whether genetic risk for schizophrenia and genetic risk for BD are associated with neuromotor development in infancy..
