Open access. Involving mental health service users in planning and reviewing their care can help personalised care focused on recovery, with the aim of developing goals specific to the individual and designed to maximise achievements and social integration. We aimed to ascertain the views of service users, carers and staff in acute inpatient wards on factors that facilitated or acted as barriers to collaborative, recovery-focused care.

The aim of this study was to better understand early-stage mental health recovery experiences of people living with severe and persistent mental illness and complex needs.
I have endured auditory and visual hallucinations, paranoid thoughts, and depressive symptoms since the age of 6 (some 40 years ago), and was formally diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, depressive type in young adulthood. I chose not to surrender to my illness, but instead to wage a war against my symptoms. And I felt that I was winning that war until I chose to leave a successful but stressful career (built over a period of 25 years) to restore my health and my quality of life. . Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is hosting a dedicated course for carers focused on supporting low mood.

A key role of a peer support worker in an inpatient setting is to support individuals with re-engaging and connecting up with their local communities and accessing employment and leisure opportunities after a hospital admission.
Among their duties, Mark and Lorna help train staff on peer-centred ways to liaise with patients; advocate on behalf of patients; take part in group meetings and one-to-one sessions with patients; and help prepare patients for discharge back into the community.
The module is designed specifically for people with lived experience of mental health issues who wish to work with service users in a statutory mental health setting. Carolyn Regan, chief executive, attended the ceremony to present the students with their certificates.
KMPTs Peer Support Lead Natalie Livesey was invited to present at the ImROC Peer support critical debate conference by ImROC Programme Director, Dr Julie Repper. Natalie talks about the importance of the experience and how it has helped her and the peer support team realise they are ahead of the game.
"Having worked closely with Dr Repper on producing a Peer Support training package and meeting one another at various other conferences, Julie explained how she had been impressed with the way in which KMPT has embedded the Peer Support Workforce and was equally encouraged by the investment given into nurturing such a unique set of expertise. I was kindly offered the opportunity by Julie to attend the conference in Nottingham and share our ‘journey of achieving critical mass’ with the other delegates.
