ive service users have been awarded with peer mentor certificates at a ceremony held in Colston Fort in Bristol.
Peer mentors support and advise service users by sharing their lived experiences and first-hand knowledge to promote recovery. They communicate on a level that staff are unable to.
The service users from Bristol Autism Specialised Service (BASS) and Pathfinders completed all elements of a six week training package. The training was delivered by clinicians and included safeguarding, listening skills, drug and alcohol awareness, lone working, personality disorder awareness and autism awareness
The Learning Disability Employment Programme recently held two webinars which were facilitated by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) to help support NHS organisations to employ more people with a learning disability and/or autism. The So What, What Next? project was designed by the Transforming Care empowerment steering group to look at ways of supporting people with a learning disability or autism who have recently been discharged from hospital to explore their skills and passions and to find ways to contribute these to their local communities.
