This paper is a call for health providers to become more aware of their own biases and reflect on the impact of current models of care and communication about the mental health of patients across the weight spectrum. A continuation of the current model of caring for patients who do not fit the emaciated archetype of ED will only perpetuate the difficulties of affected individuals and contribute to increasing health disparities based on weight.
The study reinforces findings from the existing literature that, in the context of comorbid anxiety and depression, anxiety seems to have an earlier age of onset. Early identification and intervention for anxiety disorders may therefore help to prevent the developmental of other comorbid psychiatric disorders, such as depression or additional anxiety disorders.
CPD and the learner experience have a wide range of considerations for both social care and social work as a profession, and what the research identifies is that the learning experience does not happen in a vacuum, it is influenced by a wide range of factors, both past, current, and future focused, and these need to be thought about as CPD is planned and developed.
People had longer attention span for video-based patient info than for text, spent longer (so less efficient) but felt better informed afterwards. I know we don't do patient info at the moment but I thought this was worth putting on one side (i.e. wiki) for future reference.
One obvious piece of intelligence for practice is the clear link between social deprivation and risky alcohol consumption. As with other aspects of health, it is those that have the least that pay the greatest price including mortality. Knowing that alcohol consumption is elevated in this group could help target resources locally as practitioners and teams will have the knowledge of where these individuals are and aim to make access to treatment as easy as possible. However, given the continuing real-term decrease in treatment budgets, that could prove to be an ambition rather than the reality.

Librarians at the University of Florida Health Science Center Libraries have begun to intentionally incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles into teaching during design, implementation, and evaluation. This article uses four case studies to provide an overview of the librarians' approaches to inclusive teaching (1) an annual workshop for Physical Therapy students on the intersection between DEI, health literacy, and patient education; (2) a librarian-taught one-credit course for public health students, which was revised to create a more inviting syllabus and integrate elements of universal design; (3) an annual project for first year medical students highlighting health disparities and community resources; and (4) piloting the application of critical librarianship principles in library standalone sessions on database searching and reference management. Suggestions are provided for other librarians who are interested in developing a culture of inclusive teaching in their own libraries.
The submission focuses on the main challenges facing community services in seven key areas:

learning from the new models of care programme
Jordan Reid sat down with Caroline Rollings, wellbeing lead for the National Association of Primary Care, to find out about the work she’s been doing to support staff wellbeing in primary care.
By investigating parents’ depression and how it can be associated with children’s emotional difficulties, this study showed that if untreated, mental ill-health can have significant long-lasting effects on the mother, father and children.
As this study points out, the activating and associating depressive symptoms between family members can be targeted for more rapid recovery, and may be key to identifying who might be more at risk of developing depression in young children, and later unintentionally influencing the transmission of depression.
The authors concluded that medical students and junior doctors suffered significantly from both the inherent medicine stressors, but also the additional burdens brought onto the healthcare system during COVID-19, in a culture of stress around mental health difficulties that promotes presenteeism and acceptance of unsatisfactory working conditions.
Overall, this research brings to light many ways in which access can be improved. However, as the authors mention, it is important to keep in mind that the process of improving access is not a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, programs that aim to improve access should carefully consider their target audience and combine a variety of complementary strategies. In conclusion, the authors talk about practice guidelines. They suggest that each category of healthcare providers would benefit from specific guidelines on improving access to CBT through their specific roles.
New-onset psychosis is always disconcerting and alarming for patients, families, and clinicians. Although some acute psychotic disorders are brief and resolve in a short period of time, others progress to schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and have a long-term impact on people’s mental health and quality of life. Substance-induced psychotic disorders are brief psychotic syndromes triggered by substance use that persist for days or weeks after intoxication has resolved. Abundant evidence suggests that individuals presenting to mental health services with substance-induced psychotic disorders have a significant risk of later transition to schizophrenia or, more zgenerally, to a chronic psychotic disorder. A recent meta-analysis (1) of 25 studies providing substance-specific estimates of transition to schizophrenia spectrum disorders among more than 34,000 individuals with substance-induced psychotic disorder estimated a pooled transition rate of 25% across all substances, with differential rates depending on the substance.
