This article describes how an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) developed a unique nurse-led model of care considered to be the first of its kind in Scotland. A description of the history and necessity for perinatal services is given. An overview is provided of the benefits of employing an ANP to develop services, enhance the knowledge and clinical expertise of other team members who have dedicated time to work in the perinatal service while remaining in their generic substantive posts. Providing a person-centred model of care focusing on early intervention and prevention has been established and successfully running for over 2 years in NHS Forth Valley. Recently, long-acting injection (LAI) of second-generation antipsychotics has become a valuable strategy for the treatment of schizophrenia. However, few studies have compared the effects of different LAI antipsychotics on cognitive functions so far. The present study aimed to compare the influence of risperidone LAIs (RLAI) and paliperidone palmitate LAIs (PP) on cognitive function in outpatients with schizophrenia.
