Der Historische Verein für Schwaben gehört zu den traditionsreichen historischen Vereinen auf Ebene der Regierungsbezirke, die auf Anregung König Ludwigs I. von Bayern in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts gegründet wurden. Der seit 1834 bestehende Verein gab nach mehreren Vorläufern ab 1874 die „Zeitschrift des Historischen Vereins für Schwaben und Neuburg“ heraus, die seit 1941 nur noch „Zeitschrift des Historischen Vereins für Schwaben“ heißt. Die Zeitschrift enthält Aufsätze zur Geschichte des gesamten bayerischen Schwaben, allerdings mit einem deutlichen Fokus auf die Stadtgeschichte von Augsburg. Das Gesamtinhaltsverzeichnis der Zeitschrift ist im Volltext durchsuchbar.
Die Provinzialbibliothek Amberg verwahrt als „Strandgut der Säkularisation“ in ihren Sammlungen sieben Foliobände mit insgesamt 1497 Totenroteln aus dem Besitz des ehemaligen Benediktinerklosters Ensdorf in der Oberpfalz. In der Ensdorfer Sammlung, die sich über den Zeitraum von 1716 bis 1789 erstreckt, finden sich insbesondere die Roteln aus Klöstern der Bayerischen Benediktinerkongregation, wozu u.a. Andechs, Benediktbeuern, St. Emmeram und Tegernsee gehörten.
