Zusammenfassung

The European Network for Growing Activity in Game-based learning in Education (ENGAGE) project is, in many ways, established with just such a question in mind and holds among its objectives the creation of a European Game-Based Learning Portal, a central ‘one-stop-shop’ for resources, information and discussion with regard, in particular, to the implementation of games in formal education and training. This book is one of a number of key outputs from the project and is based on collaboration between six partners across the European Union, offering reviews of 33 entertainment and educational games (so-called “serious games”) with strong and, in many cases, tried and tested potential for learning. The book can be casually browsed or, using the index at the back, searched in more specific way for particular game titles, game publishers, game genre or “learning potential” (e.g. “problem solving” or “spatial awareness”). Moreover the book is itself something of an index to a more extensive and, at the time of writing, still expanding, web-based catalogue of games which can be found on the ENGAGE portal (http://www.engagelearning.eu) where further information is offered with regard to playing the games and also how to implement them practically as learning tools.
