CN, a quarterly journal, dedicates to the latest advancement of communications and network technologies. The goal of this journal is to keep a record of the state-of-the-art research and promote the research work in these fast moving areas.

Slony-I is a "master to multiple slaves" replication system for PostgreSQL supporting cascading (e.g. - a node can feed another node which feeds another node...) and failover. The big picture for the development of Slony-I is that it is a master-slave replication system that includes all features and capabilities needed to replicate large databases to a reasonably limited number of slave systems. Slony-I is a system designed for use at data centers and backup sites, where the normal mode of operation is that all nodes are available. The Little Book of Semaphores is a free (in both senses of the word) textbook that introduces the principles of synchronization for concurrent programming. In most computer science curricula, synchronization is a module in an Operating Systems class. OS textbooks present a standard set of problems with a standard set of solutions, but most students don't get a good understanding of the material or the ability to solve similar problems. The approach of this book is to identify patterns that are useful for a variety of synchronization problems and then show how they can be assembled into solutions. After each problem, the book offers a hint before showing a solution, giving students a better chance of discovering solutions on their own. Multi-Master allows for load-balancing and fail over type high availabilty. PGCluster 1.0 started with this, 1.1 added large-object replication and 1.3 is an nice refinement. The documentation for this package is well done and easy to understand.
