Sechs IT-Unternehmen planen, Patente, die für die drahtlose Datenübertragungstechnik Wimax wichtig sind, in einem Pool zusammenzufassen und an andere Unternehmen zu lizenzieren. Das Wall Street Journal berichtet, Cisco Systems, Intel, Samsung Electronics, Sprint Nextel, Alcatel-Lucent und Clearwire wollten dafür heute die Gründung einer Open Patent Alliance bekannt geben. Dabei beruft sich die Zeitung auf "eingeweihte Kreise" und auf ihr vorliegende Dokumente.
Cisco-Chef John Chambers fordert die Wirtschaft und den öffentlichen Sektor zur Zusammenarbeit bei der Entwickung umweltfreundlicher Techniken auf. In seiner Keynote zur ersten Konferenz der Städte-Allianz Connected Urban Development (CUD) gestern in San Francisco wies er die Anwesenden auf ihre Verantwortung angesichts der Herausforderungen hin, die durch den Klimawandel entstünden. Cisco selbst wolle nicht nur den eigenen CO2-Ausstoß absenken, sondern auch den Kunden helfen, ihre Netzwerke als eine "grüne Plattform" zu nutzen. Die Information- und Kommunikationstechnik könne dazu beitragen, den Umgang mit der Umwelt zu verbessern.
