Es war ein überaus wichtiger Sieg, den der Staat Island an diesem Montag vor dem EFTA-Gerichtshof erzielt hat. Grob verkürzt bedeutet das Urteil, dass Island bei seinem Weg, die Bevölkerung, und nicht die Banken, zu retten, nicht nur alles richtig gemacht hat, sondern dass der „isländische Weg“ auch mit EU-Recht konform geht. Von den deutschen Medien wurde das Urteil weitestgehend ignoriert, nur der Süddeutschen war dieses wichtige Ereignis eine Randnotiz wert.
Im Herbst 2008 kollabierten die Banken in Island. Jetzt hat sich das Land wieder erholt. Die Krone ist stabil, das Wirtschaftswachstum von 3 Prozent liegt über dem der Eurozone.
