Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales says that he believes the benefits of taking an open approach to content outweigh the disadvantages, and says that something as large and influential as Wikipedia has become could never have been built unless the process was open to anyone to contribute.
People have this delusion that the Web is a fount of all information. That, if you look hard enough with Google and other search engines, you can find all the answers. That’s crap.
Jimmy Wales and Heather Ford hosted an official “Heather and Jimmy 50 Party Club party” in San Francisco this past Friday, at which Jimmy and Larry Lessig announced that Wikipedia content would henceforth be licensed under Creative Commons. This was followed later by a celebratory karaoke performance of “I’ve Got You, Babe” which was one for the ages.
