It is striking that the core medium of the German Information Science, the journal, is still dominated by the medium of paper. This way, opportunities of digital science communication are missed. The paper describes the status quo of the German information science communication and points to desiderata. Furthermore current developments in digital communication of science are presented. Based on this review, eight criteria that should characterize a future information science journal are given.
