This Wiki contains information and documents generated by the working group which is attempting to produce an ISO standard on which a full audit and certification of digital repositories can be based. The aim will be to take this work into ISO in the same way as the OAIS Reference Model (ISO 14721), namely via ISO TC20/SC13, of which the working arm is CCSDS.
The Archivematica project is integrating a number of open source tools and applications to create a comprehensive digital archives system that is compliant with the ISO-OAIS standard and is able to implement media type preservation plans based on an analysis of significant properties. Archivematica is a comprehensive digital preservation system. Archivematica uses a micro-services design pattern to provide an integrated suite of free and open-source tools that allows users to process digital objects from ingest to access in compliance with the ISO-OAIS functional model. Users monitor and control the micro-services via a web-based dashboard. Archivematica uses METS, PREMIS, Dublin Core and other best practice metadata standards. Archivematica implements media type preservation plans based on an analysis of the significant characteristics of file formats.
Mission Operations and Information Management Services Area (MOIMS). As recorded in the successful OAIS Reference Model, there is a demand for a standard against which Repositories of digital information may be audited and on which an international accreditation and certification process may be based. The working group will seek to produce the required audit and certification standard. In addition to Space Agency support, it is anticipated that significant resources will be contributed from many other organizations.
RODA (Repository of Authentic Digital Objects) is a Portuguese initiative to preserve government authentic digital objects. It is based on Fedora Commons, and supports the preservation of text documents, raster images, relational databases, video and audio. It runs in Java on a suitable browser. RODA’s core preservation stragey is migration, but it keeps the original representation too, so it should be OK to open old files on emulated systems.
The SHAMAN project develops and tests a next generation, long term digital preservation framework including systems and tools for analysing, ingesting, managing, accessing and reusing information objects and data across libraries and archives. It comprises the definition of the SHAMAN Theory of Preservation integrating the analysis, ingestion, management, access to and reuse of information objects across distributed repositories. The data preservation capabilities offered secure the authenticity and integrity of data objects through time.
The Primary Trustworthy Digital Repository Authorisation Body (ISO-PTAB) is the anchor for the provision of ISO audit and certification of digital repositories and plays a major role in training and accrediting auditors. The design of the SPAR system is based on the major digital preservation standard, the OAIS model1.
