Am 13. Mai wird das Landgericht Frankfurt entscheiden, unter welchen Bedingungen Unibibliotheken E-Books zur Verfügung stellen dürfen. Der Rechtsstreit hat sich an hundert digitalen Buchkopien entzündet, die die Bibliothek der TU Darmstadt in ihrem Lesesaal anbot: gegen den Willen des Verlages. Der Rechtstreit könnte zum Musterprozess für die Verwendung von E-Books an Universitäten werden.
Was verbindet Reisende und Lesende? Wohl am ehesten der Wunsch, neue Welten zu entdecken. Und somit war es wohl nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis man mit den Bibliotels darauf reagiert. Tourismusbetriebe kooperieren dafür mit Verlagen, Buchhändlern und Bibliotheken, um dem Gast ein vielfältiges Lesevergnügen bieten zu können.
Lesen im Urlaub ist ein doppeltes Erlebnis: überraschender Lesestoff und Abenteuer im Kopf. Viele Hotels horten in der hauseigenen Bibliothek Liegengelassenes. Zerfleddert und trotzdem gerne genommen. Manchmal fehlen Seiten, teils findet man erboste Kommentare. Letzteres entdeckte ich etwa in „1000 ganz legale Steuertricks“ in Miami. An den entlegensten Orten finden sich Bücher, die in öffentlichen Bibliotheken unbeachtet bleiben. Die Dominanz der Werke von Donna Leon, John Grisham und Stephen King sowie die zuverlässige Präsenz von Douglas Adams’ „Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis“ ist bei diesen Bibliotheken auffallend.
Die Göttinger Universitätsbibliothek besitzt viele alte Bücher. Einigen davon sind die Spuren der Zeit deutlich anzusehen. Um sie weiterhin lesen zu können, ist eine Restaurierung dringend notwendig. Doch fehlt dafür Geld. Eine Patenaktion soll die Schätze retten. Einige der beschädigten Exemplare und wie sie wieder hergerichtet werden sollen, stellt das Tageblatt in der Serie „Bedrohte Bücher-Schätze“ vor:
Mit einem Tag der offenen Tür feiert die Stadtbibliothek am Montag, 23. März, ihre Wiedereröffnung in der ehemaligen August-Bebel-Schule. Im zweiten Stockwerk haben die Mitarbeiter in vier ehemaligen Klassenräumen den gesamten Bestand neu sortiert und in Regalen geordnet. "Das war eine Heidenarbeit", sagt Bibliothekarin Marina Jauert. "Aber wir hatten viele fleißige Helfer, allen voran die Schüler, die hier kräftig mit angepackt haben."
