Musterländer erfolgreicher Integration - wie zum Beispiel Kanada - haben die Schlüsselrolle der Eltern erkannt und beziehen die Eltern deshalb gleich mit ein. Sie haben die Kindergärten zu kulturellen Zentren mit Bibliotheken, Cafés und Sprachkursen auch für die Eltern gemacht. Das gelingt allerdings nur dann, wenn die Eltern dort nicht nur mit der landesüblichen Sprache konfrontiert werden, sondern auch ihre Muttersprache pflegen können.
Mein Lieblingsprojekt kommt aus Kanada: Da werden eingewanderte Mütter schon im Kreißsaal mit Büchern beschenkt - in Englisch und ihrer Herkunftssprache. Eltern von Einjährigen werden zu Lesehappenings in Bibliotheken eingeladen. So wird Eltern nicht nur vermittelt: Lesen ist wichtig. Sondern auch, wie Leseförderung geht. So werden auch Menschen ans Lesen herangeführt, die aus Kulturen kommen, wo das vielleicht keine so große Rolle spielt
