This page describes the features of the SVG Rasterizer utility that comes with the Batik distribution. The SVG Rasterizer is a utility that can convert SVG files to a raster format. The tool can convert individual files or sets of files, making it easy to convert entire directories of SVG files. The provided formats are JPEG, PNG and TIFF, however the design allows new formats to be added easily. In addition, the rasterizer can (despite its name) transcode to PDF.
PGF is a macro package for creating graphics. It is platform- and format-independent and works together with the most important TeX backend drivers, including pdftex and dvips. It comes with a user-friendly syntax layer called TikZ. Its usage is similar to pstricks and the standard picture environment. PGF works with plain (pdf-)TeX, (pdf-)LaTeX, and ConTeXt. Unlike pstricks, it can produce either PostScript or PDF output.

It does not require Acrobat, and it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Solaris.

# sK1 illustration program sK1 is an open-source illustration program that can substitute professional proprietary software like Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator*. Currently GNU/Linux is our main development platform, but porting on Win32 and MacOS X desktops has been scheduled. sK1 supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and press-ready PDF output. # UniConvertor UniConvertor is a universal vector graphics translator. It is a command line tool which uses sK1 object model to convert one file format to another. The project is a multiplatform software and can be compiled under GNU/Linux (and other UNIX-like systems), MacOS X and Win32/64 operation systems. # CDR Explorer CDR Explorer is a research tool for CorelDraw file formats. It was used to create a CDR import filter for sK1 Editor and UniConvertor. This tool is written on Python and works under GNU/Linux, MacOS X and Win32. # WMF format parser (pymfvu) pymfvu is a small research project. This project was started to prepare new WMF/EMF filter for sK1 and Uniconvertor. The pymfvu program can open and render both Windows Metafile and Enchanced Metafile files.
Xara Xtreme for Linux is a powerful, general purpose graphics program for Unix platforms including Linux, FreeBSD and (in development) OS-X.

EUROSYSLIB is an ITEA2 project (ITEA2 06020) that started in October 2007 and extends to March 2010.
The intent of the project is to dramatically reinforce European leadership in the field of Embedded System Modeling and Simulation through the development of Modelica (the free standard language for Modeling and Simulation) and its accompanying libraries.

Auf unserem "Titel-Foto" ist die Brustflosse (Biologen sprechen vom Flipper) des Wals gut zu erkennen. Besonders auffällig sind die ausgeprägten Knubbel (sogen. Tuberkel) an der Vorderkante der Flosse. Diese Tuberkel finden sich ausschließlich bei Buckelwalen; sie sind, genau wie die extreme Länge dieser Flossen einzigartig und charakteristisch für diese Walart. Es liegt die Vermutung nahe, daß die Natur die Gattung megaptera nicht ohne guten Grund mit dieser Besonderheit versehen hat.
Im Gegensatz zur Schwanzfosse (Fluke) enthält die Brustflosse übrigens Knochen, genau wie ein menschlicher Arm und scheint ähnlich beweglich und flexibel zu sein.
Der Buckelwal ist trotz seiner Größe (10-15 m, 25-45 t) ein sehr wendiger und agiler Schwimmer. Ermöglicht wird dies u. a. durch die im Verhältnis zum Rest des Körpers sehr langen Brustflossen. Dank ihrer ausgefeilten hydrodynamischen Auslegung gestatten sie dem Buckelwal Manöver, zu denen andere, ähnlich große Walarten nicht in der Lage sind. Der Gedanke liegt nahe, daß die Tuberkel an den Flossen ein wesentlicher Grund für ihre strömungmechanische Qualität sind. Zudem ist der Buckelwal ein hinsichtlich Strömungsverlusten durchoptimierter Schwimmer, denn anders wären ihm lange Wanderungen durch die Weltmeere ohne Nahrungsaufnahme nicht möglich.
