Abstract
This chapter deals with the use of narrative, considered from a literary and a humanistic perspective, as a research and pedagogical tool in mathematics teacher
education. It presents the methods of obtaining and analyzing stories used in studies of mathematics teacher education. However, the main focus of the chapter is on narrative as a pedagogical tool with prospective teachers in mathematics
education. In presenting this use, eight ways in which prospective secondary teachers can be engaged in learning through narrative are given along with example stories.
