Abstract

Six participants with moderate to severe developmental disabilities participated in this investigation of the necessary skills needed to acquire matching to sample demonstrated through the Assessment of Basic Learning Abilities Level 4. Three of these participants were able to pass Level 4 prior to this investigation and three of the participants were unable to pass. Each participant was trained on three different types of component skills thought to be sub-components of ABLA Level 4. Data indicate that component skills were learned more slowly and more erratically by those participants unable to pass ABLA Level 4 prior to the investigation. The three participants unable to initially pass ABLA Level 4 and generalized identity matching were unable to pass following component skill training, but two were able to meet criterion in generalized identity probes.
