Als die deutsche Piratenabgeordnete im EU-Parlament Julia Reda Anfang des Jahres ihren Entwurf für die offizielle Evaluation des EU-Parlaments der EU-Urheberrechtsrichtlinie (InfoSoc-Richtlinie) vorgelegt hatte war klar, dass dieser bis zur Beschlussfassung im Plenum (terminisiert für Anfang Juli 2015) noch in vielen Punkten abgeändert werden würde. Die über 500 in der Folge eingebrachten Änderungsanträge nährten dann auch Zweifel daran, dass überhaupt etwas von Redas Reformideen überleben würde.
Der Berichtsentwurf von Julia Reda ist zweifellos das fortschrittlichste offizielle EU-Dokument in Urheberrechtsfragen seit das erste Katzenfoto im Internet veröffentlicht wurde. Gleichzeitig ist es in hohem Maße an konkreter Umsetzbarkeit orientiert.
Der erste Beitrag des EU-Parlaments zur kommenden Urheberrechtsreform wird ein Bericht über die Umsetzung der letzten Richtlinie zu diesem Thema von 2001 (der “InfoSoc-Richtlinie”) sein.
Die Verhandlungen über das Freihandelsabkommen finden - wie bei ACTA - im Geheimen statt. Um so sorgfältiger müssen die verfügbaren Informationen gesammelt und geprüft werden.

Doppelrücktritt im Bundesvorstand, Selbstbeschäftigung, Absturz in den Umfragen - mieser als dieser Tage standen die Piraten in ihrer so kurzen wie an Aufregern reichen Geschichte noch nicht da. Doch das ist kein Anlass für klammheimliche Freude, denn es geht um weit mehr als um Interessenspolitik für junge Nerds mit Internetanschluss.
Vermutlich werde ich es bereuen, Julia Schramm zu verteidigen, aber bei einer Frau, die so viele tatsächliche Angriffspunkte für Kritik bietet, erscheint es mir besonders abwegig, sie noch für Dinge zu beschimpfen, die sie gar nicht getan hat.
Es geht weder um den Weltfrieden, noch um die Atomkraft - wer sich heute politisch engagiert, geht oft aus einem ganz anderen Grund auf die Straße: dem Urheberrecht. Warum bewegt dieses Thema so viele Menschen?
Die Politik sitzt ein wenig zwischen den Stühlen. Sie will auf die Generation Internet zugehen, aber dafür den Schutz des geistigen Eigentums im Netz nicht über Bord werfen.
