Mutagenicity of exposure to combined magnetic fields (MF)with three frequencies (D.C.,
50Hz and 2kHz) was investigated. To investigate the mutagenicity of this combined MF,
bacterial mutation assay (Ames test) using Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TAlOO, and
also mouse lymphoma assay (MLA)using L5178Y tk+1-3.7.2C were performed for the
combined MF with static 0.5mT, 50Hz 0.5mT and 2kHz 0.5mT. No mutagenic activity was
foundin both mutagenicity assays while chemical mutagen causes significant increase of
mutation frequencies. These results suggest that the combined MF with three frequencies
(D.C., 50Hz and 2kHz) is unlikely to have mutageic potential.
