The quality of available free fonts has increased dramatically. To be frank, free fonts don’t have a good reputation, and often they are knock-offs of thoroughly crafted, already established typefaces. So is it time for professional designers to take a second look?
After careful consideration, Brill has taken the initiative of designing a typeface. Named “the Brill”, it presents complete coverage of the Latin script with the full range of diacritics and linguistics (IPA) characters used to display any language from any period correctly, and Greek and Cyrillic are also covered.

Denn der Markt für Freie Schriften im Internet – so man von Markt sprechen kann – ist ein extrem unübersichtlicher Bauchladen geworden; weit entfernt von dem, was ich damals mit meinen ausführlichen und sachkundigen Portraits angefangen (und aus Zeitmangel bald wieder eingestellt) hatte.
S. Mintert. iX, (2010)Aktuell (2012) liest man auf Wikipedia das WOFF Schriften nach dem herunterladen wieder im Orginalformat vorliegen. Vermutlich sind dann auch Werkzeuge zur Decodierung nicht illegal - muss aber jeder selber prüfen!.
