In der TU-Bibliothek hatten Aktivisten zum „massenhaften öffentlichen Bücherausleihen“ aufgerufen. Die Organisatoren schätzen, dass 300 Studenten bis zum Nachmittag etwa 2000 Bücher entliehen. Vor dem Gebäude fand eine öffentliche Lesung aus den Werken statt. Man wolle so auf den Büchermangel in den Bibliotheken hinweisen, sagt Kristian, 25, Student der Landschaftsarchitektur.
In der Bibliothek, die sich "teaching library" (Information von Lehrmittel- und Medienkompetenz) nennen darf, stellte der gelernte Bankkaufmann, Diplom-Kaufmann und Zahnarzt, die Leiterin der Bücherei, Doris Schneider, auf die Probe und ließ nach einem Fachbuch in Betriebswirtschaftslehre suchen, mit dem er noch zu seinen BWL-Studienzeiten gepaukt hatte. Kein Problem für die Bibliothekarin, Heubisch war sehr beeindruckt: "Ich beneide die heutigen Studenten."
Die Göttinger Universitätsbibliothek besitzt viele alte Bücher. Einigen davon sind die Spuren der Zeit deutlich anzusehen. Um sie weiterhin lesen zu können, ist eine Restaurierung dringend notwendig. Doch fehlt dafür Geld. Eine Patenaktion soll die Schätze retten. Einige der beschädigten Exemplare und wie sie wieder hergerichtet werden sollen, stellt das Tageblatt in der Serie „Bedrohte Bücher-Schätze“ vor:
Am Dienstag, dem 17. März 2009, hat die Weimarer Universitätsbibliothek die Förderzusage der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) für Digitalisierung ihres Altbestands erhalten. Damit ist der Weg dafür frei, dass sich die Universitätsbibliothek mit einem eigenen Beitrag an den Digitalisierungsaktivitäten der deutschen Bibliotheken beteiligt. Im Zentrum stehen dabei die Bestände der Weimarer Bibliothek, die den Vorgängereinrichtungen der heutigen Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zugeordnet werden können.
Statt Jubel und Trubel auf der Straße haben am Rosenmontag tausende Studenten in Düsseldorf Ruhe und Wissen in der Universitäts-Bibliothek gesucht. Die Bücherei hatte am höchsten Karnevals-Feiertag extra für unermüdliche Leseratten geöffnet.
“Die Digitalisierung eines reichhaltigen Schatzes an Büchern, Handschriften, Karten oder Fotografien ermöglicht vielen Menschen weltweit Information und Kenntnisgewinn, der bisher vor allem Experten zugänglich war. Neben diesen großartigen virtuellen Möglichkeiten bleibt die Sächsische Landesbibliothek - Staats- und Universität Dresden (SLUB) real ein viel besuchter Ort.“, sagte gestern die Sächsische Wissenschaftsministerin Dr. Eva-Maria Stange während der Übergabe der Auszeichnung “Ort der Ideen in Deutschland“ an die SLUB.
"Tera" - davor fürchteten sich bereits die alten Griechen. "Tera" bedeutet schließlich Ungeheuer. Und in der Digitalen Welt, wo die menschliche Vorstellung vor rasanten Entwicklungen, so langsam schwindet, ist "Tera" gut angebracht. Auch als Vorsilbe für die Speichereinheit Byte. Ein Terabyte entspricht der ungeheuren Datenmenge von einer Billion Zeichen.
Die feierliche Zeremonie der Übergabe hat am Mittwoch in der Universitätsbibliothek stattgefunden. Studenten, Dozenten, Slawisten und einfach Interessenten konnten die geschenkten Bücher über die Geschichte Russlands, die Philosophie und Kultur in einer Sonderausstellung sehen.
Nach Ende der Vorlesung stürmen die Älteren auf den Dozenten zu, mit allen möglichen Fragen und Zusatzinformationen. In den Bibliotheken okkupieren viele Ältere die knappen Arbeitsplätze. Böses Blut verursacht dies schon deshalb, weil Regelstudierende pro Semester um 500 Euro Studiengebühren zahlen, der Höchstsatz für Gasthörer aber um 200 Euro beträgt.
Eichstätt/Ingolstadt Vor einem Jahr noch, da war von einer beispiellosen Vernichtung christlichen Kulturguts die Rede. Doch jetzt ist die tonnenweise Entsorgung von alten Büchern und Schriften durch die Chefin der Uni-Bibliothek in Eichstätt „nur“ ein Fall für das Schöffengericht. Dennoch bleibt mehr als nur ein Nachgeschmack.
Die Universitätsbibliothek wollte Studierenden das Lernen erleichtern: Sie kopierte die 500 am häufigsten ausgeliehenen Fachbücher ins Internet. Doch Studenten lasen nicht nur, sondern kopierten die Werke kostenlos und druckten sie aus. Inzwischen droht der Buchhandel mit einer Musterklage.
Barbara Lison, die Präsidentin von Bibliothek und Information Deutschland, schildert ihre Befürchtungen: "Gerade bei wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken, bei Bibliotheken, die das kulturelle Erbe verwalten, spielen private Gelder schon eine größere Rolle beim Ankauf von bestimmten Beständen, aber auch gerade bei der Restaurierung. Dass es da rückläufige Tendenzen geben kann, wird stark befürchtet.
? Über 4 Millionen Euro wurden in die Bibliotheken investiert. Die Öffnungszeiten der Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek sind bis 24 Uhr verlängert worden, die Lehrbuchsammlung wurde aktualisiert und erheblich erweitert. Der Service wurde deutlich verbessert, z.B. dadurch dass die Ausleihe auf das moderne RFID-Verfahren umgestellt wurde. Auch das Angebot der dezentralen Bibliotheken wurde erheblich ausgebaut.
WÜRZBURG (sam) Da hatte die Würzburger Universitätsbibliothek einmal eine gute Idee, wie sie die Studiengebühren sinnvoll nutzt: Die 500 meist ausgeliehenen Bücher wurden Studenten seit Dezember an Terminals öffentlich zugänglich gemacht; 70.000 Euro hatte die Uni dafür investiert. Die Digitalisierung widerspricht jedoch dem Paragrafen 52b des Urheberrechtes, sagt der Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels. Jetzt droht die Klage.
Frankfurt/Main (ddp-hes). Eine 150 Jahre alte Lithographie mit einem handschriftlichen Gedicht von Alexandre Dumas dem Älteren ist in der Frankfurter Universitätsbibliothek aufgetaucht. Der Leiter des Archivzentrums, Mathias Jehn, fand das etwa DIN-A3-große Blatt Anfang Januar bei Aufräumarbeiten in einem Raum mit alten Landkarten. Es sei zwischen 3000 und 5000 Euro wert, sagte Jehn am Dienstag zu ddp. «Wir haben auch gute Gründe anzunehmen, dass unser Blatt das einzige ist, auf dem das Gedicht vollständig geschrieben steht.» Andere bekannte Exemplare des Gedichts umfassten weniger als die hier notierten 22 Verse.
Wie die Uni Köln in der NS-Zeit an eine Smmlung gelangte, zeigt die Ausstellung „Bücherspuren“. Sie dokumentiert eindrucksvoll den Weg einer privaten Bücherei von Wien nach Köln - das Ergebnis einer Herkunftsforschung.
Frau G. will alles sehen, jetzt, wo sie schon mal da ist. Auch die Rechtshistorische Bibliothek. "Ach nö, Mama, die ist im Dachgeschoss, nur alte Schinken, und da ist es eng und stickig", protestiert die Tochter, eine blonde Jurastudentin, im Flüsterton. "Aber das ist doch alles hochinteressant", flüstert Frau G. etwas zu laut zurück und stapft entschlossen durch den großen Lesesaal der Treppe entgegen, verfolgt von irritierten Blicken lernender Studenten.
MAINZ (dpa) Das hebräische Buch ist knapp 250 Jahre alt und handelt von der Kabbala – der Mystik des jüdischen Glaubens. Sorgsam legt Andreas Lehnardt das in Leder gebundene Werk auf seinen Schreibtisch. „Sehen Sie diese handschriftlichen Einträge und Kommentare – sie sind neben dem Buchtext für die Wissenschaft besonders interessant“, erklärt der Mainzer Judaistik-Professor. Seit rund vier Jahren arbeitet er an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität und kümmert sich intensiv um rund 5.500 Bücher, die von zwei jüdischen Gemeinden stammen und wie durch ein Wunder den Zweiten Weltkrieg überstanden haben.
Hell beleuchtet vermittelt die neue Unibibliothek (UB 1) in der ehemaligen Stadthalle auch um zwei Uhr morgens den Eindruck von fleißigem Lernen und Forschen rund um die Uhr. Doch der Schein trügt: Drinnen ist der Lesesaal nach Mitternacht nahezu verwaist. Nachtöffnung und späte Ausleihzeiten werden nur von wenigen Studentinnen und Studenten angenommen. Warum es so wenige nachts in die Bibliothek zieht und ob sich die 24-Stunden-Festbeleuchtung wirklich lohnt, weiß auch die Bibliotheksleitung nicht sicher.
