Apple erwartet, noch in der laufenden Woche den einmillionsten Apple TV (2. Generation) zu verkaufen. Dies gab das Unternehmen heute bekannt. Es ist das erste Mal, dass die Apple-TV-Verkaufszahlen in dieser Form verkündet werden – Ende Oktober merkte Steve Jobs lediglich bei einer Analysten-Konferenzschaltung an, dass 250.000 Stück der im September 2010 vorgestellten Apple-TV-Generation abgesetzt wurden. Apple TV galt bei Apple bislang als "Hobby". In der Pressemeldung bezeichnet Apple die kleine schwarze Box als "perfektes Zubehör für iOS-Geräte".
Der Videostore von iTunes ist der jüngste Mitbewerber bei den Onlinevideovertrieben, andere Anbieter wie UPC & A1 Telekom Austria sind länger auf dem Markt. Sie setzen allerdings voraus, dass man auch ihre Leitungen nutzt. Die Preise der Services sind durchaus vergleichbar – auch mit einer „echten“ Videothek. Bei iTunes gibt es Filme ab 4 Euro zu kaufen, für den Preis ist die Auswahl allerdings gering. Die meisten der 2000 Filme kosten um die 9,99 €, HD-Filme bis zu 16,99 €. Die Miete für HD-Filme beträgt bis zu 4,99 €, dafür kann der Film innerhalb von 48 Stunden so oft wie möglich angesehen werden. Bis zum ersten Abspielen steht der Film 30 Tage lang zur Verfügung. Voraussetzung ist ein Account bei Apples Medienservice iTunes. Alle Geräte, auf denen ein gekaufter Film genutzt werden soll, müssen denselben Account nutzen. Gemietete Filme sind nur vom Computer auf Apple-Geräte transferierbar und wieder zurück, von iPod, iPad und iPhone ist ein Transfer auf den Computer nicht möglich.
