Damit stärke AOL seine Stellung als Inhalteanbieter, teilte das US-Unternehmen mit. Über den Preis schwieg sich AOL aus. Techcrunch-Gründer Michael Arrington meint in seiner Begründung des Verkaufs, es sei, was Produkt und Geschäft angehe, "a perfect fit".
Wordpress ist eine Open Source Software, die in ihrem Ursprung für den Einsatz als Blogsystem konzipiert worden ist. Kennzeichnend dafür ist die cronologische Ablage von publizierten Artikeln und ihrer Metainformationen in monatlichen Themenarchiven, verbunden mit der Option veröffentlichte Artikel auch zu kommentieren.
