Der Fotodienst Instagram erlebt nach der Übernahme durch Facebook seinen ersten Nutzeraufstand. Die Mitglieder stören sich an einem Punkt in den neuen Regeln, laut denen Instagram Bilder und andere Daten der Nutzer Werbetreibenden zur Verfügung stellen und dafür Geld kassieren darf.

Internetanbieter können nicht zum Einbau elektronischer Filter gezwungen werden, um etwa das Herunterladen von Musikdateien zu verhindern. Laut einem Urteil des Europäischen Gerichtshofs (EuGH) dürfen Providern keine allgemeinen Überwachungspflichten auferlegt werden.
Die bei der geplanten Vorratsdatenspeicherung anfallenden Daten lösen Begehrlichkeiten aus und rufen Lobbyistengruppen auf den Plan. Mitunter werden dabei auch Forderungen gestellt, die bereits erfüllt sind. So etwa vom Verein für Anti-Piraterie (VAP), der Rechteinhabern Zugriff auf die Daten sichern will, die sie bei der Umsetzung der EU-Richtlinie ohnehin erhalten werden.
